Al Ain

Al Ain

Al Ain is the United Arab Emirates' third biggest city, after Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Located within the territory of Abu Dhabi, the big difference between Al Ain and the other two big ones is that Al Ain is not a coastal town. Although it is surrounded by desert, its inhabitants proudly call it "the Garden City", due to its appealing variety of public and private parks and gardens - and oases, right in the middle of the city! With a population of over 600 thousand, Al Ain is well-prepared for the competition with Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Many people see Al Ain's dry desert air as a big plus, especially in comparison with the humidity of the coast.

Although Al Ain is in fact the UAE's hottest city in terms of objective temperature, its dryness makes life in it actually very pleasant for inhabitants and visitors alike. Its panoramic desert landscape is unique and varied. There are many sand dunes in striking red colour, and also a mountain: Jebel Hafeet is just in the suburbs of the city, and, rising 1300 meters high, it offers the most scenic views of Al Ain.

The city is also famous for its high number of weekend houses, many of which are extremely luxurious, although their prices are in fact quite varied. As the three cities of Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai form a triangle, with each side being approximately 150 kilometres long.

The connecting motorways between them are actually quite good, travelling to Al Ain for the weekend from the coastal metropolises is simplicity itself. However, it would be a mistake to see Al Ain as a mere weekend destination, despite its striking natural beauty. Al Ain's service sector (including IT and other high tech branches) is very well developed. So far, the amount of industry has been rather small, but this is now changing. Al Ain is also an important educational centre. The United Arab Emirates University calls the city its home. It is the UAE's most important learning institution.
This university, which was founded in 1976, has had a great impact on the city, for through it Al Ain became a renowned research centre, contributing to such fields as diverse as medicine, food, agriculture, and engineering.

Al Ain is famous for its hospitality and its openness. This is reflected in the city's real estate market, which is well organized and well adjusted to international standards. Currently, it is believed that conditions are quite favourable for buyers.
