International City

This new city district of Dubai is now almost finished, with the completion of the whole construction process being expected for 2010. It will be able to give residence to more than 120 thousand people from around the world, offering them no less than 3.3 million square meters of living space! Since we are talking about luxury dwellings, the building process will indeed not be cheap: The whole construction is in fact expected to have cost the investors more 1.9 billion US $ upon completion. Yes, this is one of the top and largest building sites currently to be found on this planet!

International City - this name is in fact truly deserved. One should be prepared for more than just an international and multi-cultural neighbourhood.

What is being built, will be something like a "Disney Land" to live and work in: Architecture styles from around the world will be represented, each one in its own characteristic part of the district. To make this more authentic, most of the architects involved really do come from the cultures they are supposed to put into bricks and mortar - and concrete. And of course, the "Disney" reference is somehow misleading, because the buildings and houses will in reality look a lot more "real" than the ones in that famous amusement park, or, to use another word, more "serious". After all, people are supposed to live there instead of being just day visitors to a cute fun park.

Dubai International City will be divided into several parts: First, there is the "Residential District". There you will find architecture, representing the nations of France, China, Italy, Greece, England, Morocco, Persia, Spain, Russia, and, of course, the United Arab Emirates. So, do you feel that any important country that should be included has been forgotten, Japan or Germany maybe? Well, in this case you should write to the developers - after all the desert around Dubai still holds a lot of empty space! The Residential District is going to be three square kilometres big.

Then there will be the "Central District", or what you could call "downtown".

This will mostly be for shopping and offices. Expect some revolutionary post-modern architecture! "Dubai Gate" (also known as "Dubai Design Center") will focus on homes and everything connected. Here you will be able to find the opportunity to get counselling on housing matters (like aesthetic or material concerns), but there will also be shops devoted to the subject matter as well as several top-class hotels.

At the "Dragon Mart" everything Chinese or concerning China will be sold in small shops. The "Forbidden City" also focused on that country: It will be an exact replica of that famous ancient Beijing district, including a spectacular museum.

The "Lake District" will give you just what the name says, and, of course, this being Dubai, it will be an artificial lake, surrounded by beautiful parks and private residences.

With the completion of Dubai International City, the world will have become more exciting. This much is for sure.
