The project is not yet finished, but the major parts, the construction of the islands and the breakwater that surrounds them, have been completed. Now mostly private homes will be built in the shape of several kinds of luxury villas. Being man-made, the islands are a lot more technical than they would appear at first sight. They look completely natural, that is true, but in fact they are all linked to each other and to the mainland through several intricate networks, one for waste, one for electricity, and another one for fresh water, which gets pumped to all the islands. Here again, the developers have been very successful in meeting ecological standards, thereby disproving their critics.

Obviously, there has never been a real estate project that could as naturally claim to be truly international and embodying the spirit of the whole world. So it is not surprising that the World attracts people from all over the globe. And it is only fitting that buyers and investors like the idea of residing on the island that through it location within the World represents their own, real-life country of origin. Who would not be so patriotic as to want to do that! Many celebrities have been rumoured to have bought specific islands - and apparently "England" was purchased either by David and Victoria Beckham - or by Rod Stewart. Brangelina - Brat and Angelina - are known for their social engagement for the continent of Africa. Now it appears that they have decided to establish their Dubai home in "Ethiopia". Well, that is certainly a way to get attention...
